Beech-woods

This woodland is formed mainly by beech (Fagus sylvatica). Its closed canopy lets through very little light. Therefore the undergrowth is sparse, except before the beech trees get their leaves. In early spring, bulbs and other flowers are able to sprout, to bloom and mature.
